‘Places of Welcome’ is a growing network of local community groups where people feel safe to connect, belong and contribute – many are also Warm Welcome spaces too.
In the Diocese of Leeds alone the number of Places of Welcome has trebled over the past 2 years, and there is a real need for staff and volunteers to learn about establishing a good ethos and culture for their setting, for learning about working well with volunteers and outside partners, and sharing wisdom on the many challenges and opportunities that arise.
Supported by Barnabas: Encouraging Confidence, Learning Communities are a new way of bringing our experience and knowledge together in a relaxed and encouraging environment – ‘the knowledge is already in the room’ is one of the maxims, along with another, ‘learning communities need loose timetables and long coffee breaks’. We certainly try to hold to the latter: those attending are rewarded with pastries, mid-morning refreshments and a light lunch.
