Weekly Devotional - Time for a Spiritual Check-Up

My friends, we have all had moments in our lives when our minds were in conflict, deciding to do what is right or wrong in a given situation, and we still chose to do the wrong thing. I know I have. The Bible warns us in Mark 14:38Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Satan uses various events and activities in our world to daily lure us away from living a life worthy of our calling in Christ. Such events/activities are disguised to make them appealing and deceptive – so we need to be vigilant not to fall into satan’s trap.

A spiritual check-up of our walk with the Lord is necessary and, in my opinion, daily because no one knows the day or hour of the Lord’s return (Matthew 24:36). If we are not doing so well, just reset and start again because we serve a God that is gracious and merciful.

What does a spiritual check-up look like for us as Christ followers?

  • A proof of a changed life.  Showing that God is now in control of our lives, not us, and this should manifest in our thoughts, actions and deeds. If we are in Christ, the new creation has come and the old has gone (2 Corinthians 5:17).
  • Learning, obeying and applying the Word of God. The truth of His Word should lighten our path and guide our daily situations, circumstances and events. However, if we don’t know what the Word is, we are at risk of falling for satan’s lies and deception.
  • An intentional choice to live right for God. This means when those conflicting thoughts planted by satan in our minds come, we consciously choose what is right over what is wrong, by the power of the Holy Spirit that is in us, no matter what.

Christ follower, when we fall, let’s rise up, repent, draw strength from God’s word and keep moving forward. If you are currently not a Christ follower, the life of sin brings no satisfaction. It only leads to a dead end. Salvation awaits you today – come!

All glory to God!
