Weekly Devotional - The Privilege of Serving Others

My friends, we are blessed by God when we have Pastors willing to use their gift of teaching to equip us with sound doctrine, so we can effectively use whatever gift we have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms (1 Peter 4:10).

Jesus, our role model, came to serve others. He ministered to and served people with varying spiritual, emotional and physical needs. To those who believed, He offered encouragement in their journey of faith and to those who did not, He offered salvation and eternal life.

Serving others requires taking a risk. However, our maturity in Christ should help us embrace and view the risk of service as a privilege by:

  • Refusing to be a spectator. I have been guilty in the past of being a Church pew warmer – always receiving the truth of God’s Word every Sunday and Wednesday and not sharing with others. We should be vibrant Christians ready to serve God with our gifts without fear and for His glory.
  • Putting our faith into action. Prayerfully thinking of what we can do in and outside the church, we have been planted to help others grow:

(a) Spiritually – through sharing our testimony of how God delivered us from a life of hopelessness and gave us hope of eternal life. Jesus hated sin but loves sinners and laid down His life for us all.

(b) Physically – giving of our time and resources. An example could be offering a ride to someone in our community to attend Church so they can enjoy fellowship with God and others. Simply put, we must become, by the help of the Holy Spirit, the Hands and Feet of Jesus.

(c) Emotionally – in expressing the love of Jesus with comforting words from the Bible to those hurting in and outside our Church.

Christ follower, prayerfully ask God to mark your life with the privilege of serving Him in whatever area He has called you to serve.  If you are currently not a Christ follower, the greatest service you can offer is to give your life to Christ – Come.

All glory to God!
