People in Horsforth enjoyed the sunshine last Saturday at the Grove Methodist Church Lent pop-up event.

A large number attended the event across the day and enjoyed free hot drinks, bacon and sausage sandwiches and cakes, as well as sharing conversation and fellowship with other locals.

The event was organised by the church as part of the Methodist church's Susanna’s Table initiative, which sees churches across the Methodist community organise events for food and fellowship during Lent.

Phil Maud explained the meaning behind the event.

“It’s called Susanna’s Table. Susanna was John Wesley’s mother. John Wesley was the founder of Methodism, and they had a big house and around the kitchen table, she fed them, she taught them to read, and she taught them the bible. So the Methodist Church in the Leeds Bradford area and the West of Yorkshire is saying to people, ‘Will you organise an event that gets you out of the church onto the streets and feed people?'"
