'Our Earth, Our City' is being organised by St George's Leeds and Holy Trinity Boar Lane from 7th-27th November as part of our commitment to climate justice, but it is an event for the whole city. The centrepiece of the event is the display of the 'Gaia' installation at Holy Trinity Boar Lane. 'Gaia' is a stunning replica planet earth, which provides the opportunity to see the earth as only astronauts can! We will also have 'interpretive boards' to get people thinking about climate change, a prayer area, and an opportunity to make a 'climate pledge' to take personal action. We are also holding a series of events 'with' Gaia including concerts, talks and a community art exhibition
We would love to receive artwork from all ages and abilities on the theme of our planet and the need to care for it. It would be great if you could share this with your congregations, and maybe even get the kids groups creating their art together? The top three entries in each age category will receive a prize and their work will be displayed in the Holy Trinity Boar Lane cafe area during 'Our Earth, Our City', although we also hope to display photos of as many entries as possible on a rolling display. It's not really about 'competition', but a way to engage people of all ages with an environmental message in a creative way, both as they create the art and as the general public view the art when they come to see 'Gaia'. For full details including size requirements etc see www.gaiaearthleeds.org/art. Please note that entries are required by the end of September!
