A BBC One interview with Sister Christina and Fr Gerard Kearney, and featuring former Mount St Joseph’s resident, Jean Piper, will be aired today (23 October) on the BBC’s local Look North news bulletins.

There has also been a follow-up story about Mount St Joseph’s Care Home in Leeds in yesterday’s Yorkshire Evening Post.

Mount St Joseph’s had to close in 2024, owing to its construction in the early 1970s having included RAAC concrete in the roof. Plans for the building’s demolition are awaiting the ‘go-ahead’ from Leeds City Council at their Planning Group’s 29 October meeting.

Fundraising has been taking place ever since closure, to re-build  the care home with 37 flats providing the essential affordable care provision for older people in need, which has been the ‘signature’ mission of the Little Sisters of the Poor for 160 years.
