The Leeds Compassionate City Awards recognise the outstanding individuals and organisations who make a difference to their communities. This year, HawaDal had an excellent evening at the Awards, receiving the award for Health and Wellbeing Project of the Year, as well as being Highly Commended for the Jo Cox Award. HawaDal Peace of Mind supports victims of Female Genital Mutilation.
Horsforth Town of Sanctuary were awarded the prestigious Jo Cox Award. Horsforth Town of Sanctuary is part of Horsforth Chaplaincy Project and supports residents of a local hotel, and people seeking sanctuary across the Leeds area. Horsforth Chaplaincy Project aims to support the church to ‘help Horsforth flourish’ in all aspects of the community.
Although not an LCCT project, West Yorkshire Maternity Stream of Sanctuary received the Diversity Project of the Year Award. Our very own Rose McCarthy who leads the Leeds City of Sanctuary project has been a big part of setting up and running this stream of sanctuary which aims to build a culture of welcome within maternity services for people seeking sanctuary.
We are immensely proud of the impactful work being carried out by our projects within the Leeds Christian Community Trust. We are deeply grateful for the passion and dedication of our team, who are driving positive change in our city and providing support to those in Leeds who need it most.
