Weekly Devotional - God will not share His glory with us

My friends, sharing in God’s glory is something we as Christ followers should be careful of and pay close attention to, because it is subtle and satan has used it to destroy so many lives.

Our human nature craves attention so we easily fall into this trap – myself included.  Our goal in everything we do is to draw people to Christ rather than to ourselves more so, if God has used us or is using us to be a blessing to others in ministry, career, business, and so on.

God is clear in His word about taking His glory in Isaiah 42:8I am the Lord; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols”.

A Bible character who took God’s glory and paid a high price for his action was King Herod.  Read the full account of his story in Acts 12:19-23.  We are told that because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died – verse 23.

Avoid taking God’s glory by:

  • Acknowledging that He is the source of all things – Whatever we become or accomplish in life, it is because of Him.   We are reminded in Acts 17:28 that in Him we live and move and have our being – so let’s intentionally return all the glory back to Him for all we have become and accomplished.
  • Giving Him the Praise – When He uses us to be a blessing to others in any capacity.  It is natural for people to thank us – but wise to immediately return the praise to God and thank Him for giving us the ability to do what we have done.
  • Drawing attention to Him not to ourselves – Make it known upfront that God is behind the situations, events or circumstances and we are just vessels being used.  Use the scenarios as testimonies to share God’s goodness and encourage others to come and taste and see that God is good.

The above action will take practice and an intentional state of mind but God will help us as we try to bring Him glory not ourselves.

Christ follower, when we are faced with a situation that satan wants to use to take glory from God – let the story of King Herod be a deterrence to us. If you are currently not a Christ follower, come to the source of life today – Jesus.

All glory to God!
