I believe that’s the time I began to feel boldness coming over me. But I got told off for being rude. It was my first case of racism. And that was the first time I realized I need God in my life to help me when I come upon this situation."

Hear Gloria Hanley tell her stories of life as a midwife in Leeds, her vocation as a midwife and minister, her journey as an author, and her community work that has changed the lives of so many.

In this conversation with Faith and Racial Justice Worker Dwayne Hutchinson, hosted at New Testament Church of God on the 15th November 2023 as part of the Leeds Lives series, Gloria shares her lived experience of being a Black woman in midwifery with her trademark boldness, humour and care, and explores why fewer Black women are going into midwifery today.
