Last Saturday, after 41 years, the family that makes up Freedom Church (formerly City Church Leeds) celebrated our final time together. And for me (Mark Kelly), my role as the senior leader came to an end after 15 years.
It has been a privilege being a part of this church family and an honour to serve God and His people. I believe God clearly guided us in this season. As tempting it would have been to carry on existing until the last person turned off the metaphorical light, it is fitting that we finished when we did.
On Saturday, somewhat paradoxically from a human perspective, was a time full of faith and expectation, and I believe most people are excited to move on. Regardless of where we all end up, we are taking the DNA of Freedom Church with us. We will add something unique and valuable to whatever community each individual next calls ‘home’.
Suffice to say, I have constantly strived to be sensitive to what God is saying and asking us to do and have tried to work that all out in a way that is gracious, kind and humble. My heart has always had a desire to learn and grow and lead well, in everything striving every day to be more like Jesus.
Take care and God Bless!
Mark Kelly
P.S. If you don’t yet know Jesus Christ personally, I encourage you to discover more about Him. Find some Christians and attend some church services. Most importantly, ask questions of those who profess a Christian faith and even more, try praying; you might be surprised when you receive an answer!
