Leeds City Mission (LCM) is repeating a harvest project pioneered last year.

They are giving away over 1000 apples to people in need through their novel initiative in an inner city ward.

Every day for the next 2-3 weeks they are displaying trays of apples outside their Mission Centre in Mistress Lane, near Armley Library.

LCM volunteers and supporters are currently foraging and picking from apple trees. They have already picked over 600 apples with the total rising every day. People in need wanting fresh fruit to eat or to make homemade healthy eating options such as apple pies, apple crumbles and apple sauce are making their way to the Mission premises to collect supplies of this seasonal fruit.

The City Mission Hub manager Sinclair Martin explained Sharing the gospel is our priority.  However the supply of adequate, good healthy food is really important too. Volunteers and supporters are giving their time and energy to supply quantities of freshly picked apples enabling LCM to connect with people.  LCM is providing food for body and soul”

Manager Sinclair Martin said that the City Mission runs a Food Bank at its premises supplying tins and packets of food to people in need. The provision of quantities of apples is helping the Mission to extend their range and provide fresh, healthy fruit to people on the margins of life.

Leeds City Mission is a multi-church Christian agency committed to gospel outreach in word and deed. Its projects include a foodbank, charity shop, clothing store, homeless shower, hygiene shelf, street evangelism, support for smaller churches, prison and nursing home chaplaincy and other projects.  It also runs the Christian Book & Card Booth from its premises in Mistress Lane supplying bibles, books and greetings cards to the Christian public in Leeds.
