From the very first day, the children were asking…
“When’s the next one?”
Moments of Courage and Delight
One boy stood trembling at the edge of the canoeing session - but he chose bravery. Afterwards he told us: “I faced my fears. Whatever is next, I can do it!”
Another child, standing at the foot of the climbing pole for the Leap of Faith, threw his coat aside and announced: “I’m not going to let this weigh me down… I’m doing this!” And he did, reaching the top and leaping with pride.
A Year 5 boy who didn’t climb as high as the others spent the whole time cheering every single child on, celebrating their bravery as much as his own.
And a Year 4 girl quietly made herself the team’s helper offering kindness, zipping coats and supporting others with pure joy.
One Year 6 girl with additional needs spent time gently touching the catkins and whispering how beautiful everything was. She noticed and appreciated the simple wonders that many of us walk past.
Two Eritrean sisters filled the retreat house with music singing in Tigrinya, playing ukulele, and sharing stories about faith, prayer and Lent in their Orthodox tradition.
