Members of Morley Community Church presented 50 Real Easter Eggs in Holy Week - to grandparents!

Members of the congregation heard of the Leeds City Mission project making the Real Easter Egg available to churches as a vehicle for seasonal literature evangelism.

The Real Easter Egg is produced by the Meaningful Chocolate Company.  The eggs are unique - they are the only eggs on sale in the UK to make any reference to the easter story on the box.  It also has an illustrated book-in-the-box on the crucifixion and resurrection story.  The chocolate is all Fairtrade, palm oil and plastic free.  A donation from every sale is made to Christian charities by the Meaningful Chocolate Company.  

Morley Community Church has a positive relationship with a local sheltered housing scheme for pensioners.  It has an active Residents Committee who organise an active social programme for those living in the scheme's apartments.  Every year, the committee make a seasonal gift of an easter egg to the scheme's residents.  

A member of the congregation persuaded the Residents Committee to make the Real Easter Egg their choice this year.  The Christian Book & Card Booth at Leeds City Mission was approached for a supply of eggs. They were made available at cost price.

A spokesman from Morley Community Church said that they saw this as an evangelistic project making a good Christian book available to many people with no church connections or active faith. They also figured that most people like chocolate and that pensioners have grandchildren to whom the book will be given after they have read it for themselves.

The church also used another eight Real Easter Eggs as prizes in two local primary schools in follow-up presentation assemblies to a Bible Exhibition they took into classes in March.

Church members were effusive in their thanks to the Christian Book & Card Booth at Leeds City Mission for making the project possible.  A large quantity of Real Easter Eggs had been immediately available at a heavily discounted price. They proved to be a novel evangelistic tool.
