There will be a series of 4 free workshops at 5 community venues spread across the city:

1) How You Form

This workshop will focus on supporting small emerging community organisations to set up effectively and be ready to access funding. We will look at the pros and cons of different structures from a very informal community organisation to a registered charity or community interest company. We will develop a plan to take your organisation forward covering the key tasks you will need to carry out and where to get further support.

2) How You Get Creative

This workshop will be about how we can use art to engage with community activity. Participants will experiment with a variety of artistic materials to explore ideas in an open, relaxed environment. Building on their learning by doing, participants will begin to think about how they could use art and culture as a social tool within their community.

3) How You Get People Involved

This is a participative and fun session where we will explore ways to ensure that groups are community-led and that everyone can have an input into decision-making.

Participants will be encouraged to reflect on the ideas they generated in workshop 2, beginning to focus their ideas for future projects.

4) How You Get Funding

This workshop will help your group to apply successfully for a small grant of a few hundred pounds up to around £10,000.

Having developed their project ideas, participants will be able to begin the process of shaping their ideas into funding bids.

The programme is designed so that you can attend all 4 workshops and carry your learning through to develop your organisation from the ground up or you can attend the workshop or workshops that are most relevant to you.

We aim to provide people guidance through various stages of starting and developing as an organisation as well as inspiring people to pursue creative and artistic projects. The programme will culminate in a celebratory event giving people the chance to share their groups, engage the public, make connections and display the skills they’ve learnt throughout the programme.
