Could you help CAFOD in local Catholic schools?

Wanted! Volunteers to inspire children and young people to learn about the world, people who live in poverty and how we can love our global neighbour.

By running inspiring assemblies and engaging workshops, you will tap into their natural compassion and sense of fairness, and they will be excited about making a difference.

It would only require a few hours of your time each term and you would be assisting your local community to work together for the Common Good.  No experience is necessary, and full training, support and resources will be given.

About the Role

Inspire Children and Young People!

The purpose of the role is to inspire and support children and young people in primary and secondary schools to understand global justice issues, take meaningful action and engage with CAFOD’s mission to build a fairer world by praying, fundraising and campaigning. School volunteers deliver assemblies, interactive classroom sessions that bring Catholic Social Teaching to life.

As a volunteer in Catholic Schools you will help children and young people deepen their understanding of global justice.

Location

• Local primary and/or secondary schools within the assigned agreed geographical area

Key Responsibilities – Tasks and Activities

• Deliver engaging school sessions (assemblies, workshops with classroom activities) using CAFOD’s provided resources and training.
• Promote CAFOD campaigns, appeals, and fundraising activities to pupils and staff.
• Help pupils and students explore global justice, poverty, climate action, and Catholic Social Teaching 
• Represent CAFOD’s values of compassion, solidarity, and dignity in all interactions

Skills and Qualities

• Passion for global justice, international development, or faith‑based social action.
• Good IT Skills – confidence in using Office 365 e.g. sending emails, delivering PowerPoint presentations;
• Confidence or willingness to build confidence speaking to groups of children and young people.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to learn and use CAFOD’s materials effectively.
• Reliability and commitment to planned visits.
• Ability to work in line with safeguarding requirements.

• You will make at least six visits per year and reserve time to prepare to deliver resources and travel by own vehicle or public transport;
• You must be able to deliver assemblies and workshops between 9am and 3:30pm; you can be flexible and visits can be built around your availability;
• You will reserve time to attend online and/or in person training sessions every term to become familiar with new resources to be delivered and team meetings for updates and visit planning;
