Sunday, 27th October: 2:00pm - 5:00pm
The Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin, and Deputy Mayor, Alison Lowe are hosting Reclaim The Night, an outdoor event in Greenhead Park, Huddersfield, on 27 October, 2-5pm as part of the Mayor’s mission to improve the safety of women and girls.
As winter nights draw in, and the clocks go back, the Mayor and Deputy Mayor empower Women and girls of West Yorkshire to Reclaim The Night in public spaces.
To deliver their message, the Mayor is hosting an event here in West Yorkshire, giving partners and women the opportunity to convey how they feel about getting active and socialising in daylight hours compared to darker evenings. We understand women view the long winter months as a ‘curfew', and how they make changes to their outdoor routines to avoid feeling 'anxious', 'vulnerable,' and 'unsafe', in turn having an impact on their overall health and wellbeing.
Women should be able to feel safe in the darker hours and not have to change their routines when the clocks go back. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor invite you to wrap up warm and join them, local residents, organisations and groups to participate in a walk around the park to raise awareness for safe spaces for residents of West Yorkshire, and support our journey to end violence against women and girls.
During this time, we will be inviting partners to showcase the important work they do and to raise awareness of successful partnership working, to combat violence against women and girls and improve safety for all. If you are interested in showcasing your work the outdoor event, please get in touch with us at consultation.pc@westyorks-ca.
