Monday, 25th November: 4:30pm - 6:30pm
Leeds Prevent would like to invite you to our Prevent Roundtable event on Monday 25th November at 16:30-18:30 at the Civic Hall in the Banquet Hall.
Agenda is to follow.
The issue of terrorism continues to present a significant and ongoing challenge for cities and communities. The risk of radicalisation has never been greater with a complex range of risks, less predictable and constantly evolving, and from a range of ideologies, groups and individuals enabled through the much more rapid process of the online world.
We have seen that international events can have a direct impact here so vigilance is vital. Over the summer we have also seen the impact of the Extreme Right Wing and their direct methods of exploiting and manipulating concerns through social media in order to gain support. Terrorism can arise anywhere and local authorities need to be conscious of the potential of an incident occurring, or originating from within their area and have strategies in place that strengthen the resilience of their communities.
The Leeds Prevent Roundtable is an annual opportunity for elected members, third sector organisations, faith establishments, community groups and other partners to meet with senior officials from the Home Office to have a dialogue about Prevent.
Joining us for this event is the deputy Director of Prevent, Cathryn Ellsmore. This will be a really valuable opportunity to hear her views in terms of Prevent and the national risk and threat picture faced by the UK from terrorism as well as to ask her any questions you might have about the Prevent strategy.
This is your opportunity to ask questions to better understand and influence the national policy and decision making. You all hold key relationships and influence in the community, and your support with delivering Prevent is vital to its success and can help to safeguard susceptible people in Leeds.
We have scheduled time for questions on the agenda. If you would like to ask a question anonymously then please email prevent@leeds.gov.uk by Thursday 21st November with your question(s) and we will ask them on your behalf.
To register for the event please email prevent@leeds.gov.uk with your full name, position and name of your organisation. If you are unable to attend but would like to nominate someone in your place then please let us know their details.
Places are limited so registration is necessary to ensure a place.
We look forward to welcoming you on the 25th November.
