An exciting City of Culture event entitled “Tent of Hope” will take place in Bradford’s Lister Park at the end of the month, with contributions from many faith leaders.

Based in the pop-up venue “The Beacon” there is a full programme for Friday, August 29, includes guided interfaith walks around Lister Park, a “Market Place” of organisations and events in the morning, which will feature Bradford Cathedral and other worshipping communities. 

The afternoon features  “Acts of Prayer and Solidarity” from 1pm to 2pm with contributions from Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Sikh faith leader, including one from the Revd Rebecca Mathen, our curate at Little Horton.

These will be followed by round table discussions between leading academics and writers led by Prof Paul Rogers, Emeritus Professor of Peace Studies at the University of Bradford, and an Honorary Fellow of the UK Defence Academy. From lecturing on environmental science, he moved to Bradford in 1979 and has worked primarily on the changing causes of international conflict, especially in relation to political violence. 

 The Very Revd Andy Bowerman, Dean of Bradford will also talk on the spiritual importance of building friendships through sport.

The Rt Revd Toby Howarth, Bishop of Bradford urged people to attend and engage with this important part of Bradford City of Culture 2025: “Throughout the day there will be an art exhibition and various stalls and kids activities outside of the Bacon. It’s going to be a great gathering of people and all are very welcome to attend – it’s going to be great!"
