How do we act for climate justice without burning out? Our next Leeds Craftivists campaign will look at Eco Anxiety, and how we take care of ourselves as climate activists.
Many people are so overwhelmed by the climate emergency that they struggle to even begin to take action. Some ignore the problem entirely, some people take extreme measures to eliminate their carbon footprint, and some launch into climate activism to assuage their anxiety, which can ultimately lead to activist burn-out and debilitating anxiety.
We want to create space for reflective activism that is grounded in hope, and this campaign will give us space to look at how we resource ourselves and others to take positive action for the climate without burning out. We’ll be joined by Jo Musker-Sherwood from The Rest of Activism to facilitate our first session and guide us through a process of grounding ourselves in gratitude, facing climate grief head-on, and working towards hopeful action.
Monday 2nd September will be a reflective journalling session with Jo on how we process climate grief and move into active hope.
Monday 7th October we'll be crafting beautiful reminders for ourselves about our grounding values to inspire daily gratitude and resource our activism.
Monday 4th November Finally, we’ll craft something eye-catching to pass on the message to others and encourage healthy activism for everyone.
All our meetings will be at 43 The Calls, 7.30-9pm. Everyone is welcome to all the sessions, you don’t need a ticket but it’s helpful if you sign up via the links above to let us know you’ll be there. Each session will follow on from the last, so it’s best if you can make it to all three, but if you can’t, you can still join in – just try to watch the recording from the first session before you start.
