Geoffrey Bryant — from Drugs & Prison to Finding Christ
Leeds City Mission is organising another of its popular Praise Events for churches around the city.
For two decades Geoffrey Bryant was engaged in criminal activity. He was also a druggie — smoking weed, pill popping and sniffing cocaine.
Geoffrey will be telling his amazing story of transformation at the City Mission Garden Summer Praise Event on Saturday 28 June. This will be held on the lawn adjacent to the City Mission Compassion Centre in Mistress Lane, Armley.
Geoffrey served time in a number of prisons in the UK —including Armley Jail here in Leeds! He was far from God and immersed in a lifestyle of rebellion, petty crime and pleasing himself. But people were praying for him —including his mum and members of a church in north Leeds.
His life took a dramatic turn when he was released from jail after what turned out to be his final sentence. While staying with his mum at home she invited him to a Christmas Carol guest service at her church. He was challenged by the gospel message and gave his life to Christ.
Geoffrey has never looked back. He has undergone an amazing transformation. Now married with three children he subsequently made a career for himself as a Gas Safe Engineer and Plumber. He is also heavily involved in outreach and fulfils a role as northern regional evangelist for New Testament Church of God.
The City Mission Centre is just 300 yards from the front doors of the prison behind which he was incarcerated for his misdeeds! A light free lunch will be served around tables between 12.30 – 1.30 pm on the lawn adjacent to the Centre. There will be a time of praise, a short update about on-going City Mission work and then Geoffrey will tell his story of turning from crime to Christ between 1.30 – 2.30 pm
At the conclusion of formal proceedings there will be delicious free ice creams and further liquid refreshments. City Mission Coordinator Andy Dalton said that many believing people who came to these events really appreciate the opportunity to hear an inspiring message and also meet a wide range of people from different churches in Leeds. He said the location was an ideal setting with tables to sit around under the shade of leafy trees in the summer sunshine. There is plenty of on-street parking and various bus routes passing nearby including 14, 15, 16, 72, 81, 86, 87, X6 & X11
Andy Dalton concluded “All people need to do is turn up on the day. Our Centre is easy to find being diagonally opposite Armley Library and also the last public building in the main shopping area. Everyone is most welcome.”
Leeds City Mission is a multi-church Christian agency which has brought gospel hope and practical help to marginalised people since 1837. More details on 0113 345 3118.
