Leeds City Mission is organising an advent seasonal social event for churches around the city.

The gathering will be held on Saturday 29 November.  There will be an optional tea (6.00 pm) followed by a seasonal Christmas Quiz at 7.00 pm.  The evening will also feature carol singing and an inspiring message from Claire Newton who works for the City Mission as prison chaplain.

The venue will be the New Testament Church of God located at 3 Easterly Road, Roundhay, Leeds, LS8 2TN.  This is near the Fforde Grene Junction Traffic Lights.  It is served by no less than nine bus routes (Numbers 12, 13, 13a, 49, 50, 50a, X98, X99) and has a car park and disabled entrance at the rear of the church (Upland Road entrance).

City Mission Interim Coordinator Andy Dalton said that everyone was looking forward to this occasion which launches the Advent Season in the City.  He explained that the City Mission organised these Supporters Social Gatherings about three times in the course of the year.  They usually attract a range of people from over twenty different churches throughout the city.  Many attending come from small churches and appreciate the opportunity to meet with other believers across the denominational spectrum.  Everything is free.

Andy Dalton said that the City Misson was deeply appreciative to the New Testament Church of God for their welcome and hospitality enabling the event to happen at this particular moment in time.   He said that everyone was aware of the trauma experienced by the church in recent days when the police interrupted a Memorial Service to arrest a mourner.  The deeply upsetting episode was reported in the local and national press.  The church is still coming to terms with the incident and the controversial actions of West Yorkshire Police.  Andy Dalton said that the prayers of believing people and churches across the City were with the congregation at this time.

In addition to the formal programme there will be a range of give away items.  These include hundreds of free christmas gift tags.  In the course of the year Leeds City Mission volunteers have created over 7000 gift tags from 4200 used greetings cards.

Andy Dalton concluded “This promises to be a great evening and we trust many people will take the opportunity to come and enjoy this seasonal event..”
