Monday, 18th November: 10:00am - 12:00pm
Moortown Baptist Church, 204 King Lane, Moortown, Leeds, West Yorkshire, LS17 6AA
Mitzvah Day is the UK’s largest faith-led day of social action. Jewish-led, it aims to introduce people to social action and to their neighbours, supporting local projects. It aims to bring people from different backgrounds together, to volunteer side-by-side and build relationships.
Mitzvah Day has a big interfaith element, with the theme for this year being ‘Stronger Together’, the idea being that whilst we may have different views on things happening in the world, and practice our faiths in different ways, we are stronger when we work together.
For Mitzvah Day, Leeds Jewish Housing Association are partnering with The Beacon Cafe, hosted by Moortown Baptist Church. Beacon is the Monday morning Warm Space café, taking place from 10am-12pm, which serves up free tea, coffee and cakes to anyone, alongside a food bank, an opportunity to chat and, at the conclusion of the café, some short prayers.
The idea is that local faith leaders and members of local faith communities will attend the Beacon Cafe, whether for all or part of the morning, bringing food from their respective traditions, accompanied by an explanation of the food items.
Please join us at the Beacon Cafe. If you are bringing food, please note the following:
- No items containing nuts
- No items containing cream
- No hot food
- Items must be labelled with any allergens
Please also feel free to label your food with a brief explanation of its significance in your respective traditions.
