I don’t really like making decisions. Sometimes I just wish God would tell me exactly what to do and I’ll do it! But Jesus is more relational than that. He’s not a hard taskmaster and he loves to co-labour with us.

Sometimes when I’m faced with a decision, the most important choice to make first is just choosing to say yes to Jesus, no matter what. It’s always good to seek God’s will with wisdom and discernment in decision making and it’s something we should take seriously, but I have found that by first saying yes to Jesus, the decision now carries less pressure and weight. Sometimes it won’t make things any clearer about what to choose, but a yes to Jesus sets your priorities straight and helps you see things from a Kingdom perspective.

I have found that the most important thing in decision making is your overall attitude to following Jesus wholeheartedly, not necessarily the specific choice you make. When you’re in the Kingdom, there isn’t “one right thing” to do with your life. Often Jesus allows us to choose and might ask us, ‘What do you want to do?’. The yes to Jesus is the one right way, and then there is joy in the journey of discovering and learning and co-labouring with Him.

We only need to say yes to Jesus once to be saved. However, it is also good to say yes to Jesus daily, just to live in that place of constant surrender to Him. ‘Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.’ (Luke 9:23)
So next time you’re faced with a decision to make, put the choice beside for one second and make sure Jesus gets your first and biggest  "yes”!
