Last Sunday, 8th March was International Women’s Day. Across the world people celebrated the achievements, resilience, and dignity of women across every nation. As Christians, we have every reason to join this celebration.
The Bible is filled with women whose courage and faithfulness shaped the story of redemption. Throughout scripture God worked through incredible women to shape history, lead nations and display unwavering faith. Below I have included some lessons we can learn from women of the Bible, I’d encourage you to read more about them as there’s lessons for all of us in the lives of these women.
Sarah - nothing is too hard for God (Gensis 18:14)
Hagar - God sees you even in your lowest moments (Genesis 16:13)
The Samaritan Woman - One encounter with Jesus can rewrite your story (John 4)
Ruth - its not over until God says so (Ruth 4:1-12)
Rahab - Faith is not limited by your past, God can use anyone (Joshua 2:1-21)
Esther - Stand up for what is right (Esther)
Leah - God sees the overlooked and honours hidden faithfulness (Genesis 29-35)
Elizabeth - you can choose joy and not comparison (Luke 1:39)
Mary - God honours and values you (Luke 1:38)
Mary Magdalene - God can redeem any life for His glory (Luke 8:2)
International Women's Day invites us to reflect on where inequality still exists — in access to education, safety, opportunity, and voice. As followers of Christ, justice for the vulnerable is not optional.
Today, let us celebrate the women in our churches, families, and communities. Let us honour them, listen to them, and advocate for their flourishing — because when women thrive, so does the whole body of Christ.
