Breaking down the word “sin” might be helpful to some of us who struggle with this word and its implications – I know I did.

Sin, put simply is anything that is contrary to God’s word and will for our lives and the action that leads to a sinful life style.  This takes place in our mind where the thoughts are conceived, eventually spoken and then implemented.

A Bible character that acted on the thoughts his mind conceived was Cain.  He and his brother Abel brought their offerings to the Lord (with different motives) and God who sees and knows the heart of men and women accepted Abel’s offering and rejected Cain’s.  Read the full account of the story in (Genesis 4:1-15).

Sin has a way of:

  • Making us angry – The bible tells us that Cain was angry at his brother out of jealousy and hence killed him.
  • Making us downcast – Once we are lured into the trap of sin, we are then left alone to deal with the pain and sorrow that comes from our actions.

My friends, it is interesting to me how God always provides us with a way of escape by giving us the ability to discern what is right and wrong through the knowledge of His word.  However, we ignore that inner voice – hence we become the victims of our own actions.

Christ follower, I encourage you to prayerfully examine the sin(s) that is crouching at your door and remember that it does not have your best interest at heart – so flee from it.  If you are currently not a Christ follower, only Jesus can forgive us of our sins – come and experience Him today.

All glory to God!
