Weekly Devotional - Is Pride Hindering Your Progress?

My friends, the Lord knows the damage that pride can do to our lives and because He is a good Father, He provides us with a way of escape by constantly warning us through His word to humble ourselves so we are not destroyed. One of such warning is evident in 1 Peter 5:6Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.”

A Bible character that pride almost hindered him from receiving his healing was Naaman.  I encourage you to read the full account of the story in 2 Kings 5:1-19.  Naaman was a commander in the army but he had leprosy.  God in his love and mercy used an ordinary slave girl in Naaman’s household to give him the key to his healing – a prophet by the name Elisha who gave a simple instruction to go bath in the Jordan seven times.  Naaman initially refused because Elisha did not come out to visit with him and touch him – but for the mercy of God, he would have missed out on his healing.

Friends, the key lesson here for us is:

To watch out for pride that underestimates where our help can come from:

  • We often judge the book by its cover and have a preset idea that our help can only come from certain people because of their social status in life – not so.
  • God can bring us help from where and how we least expect it. We just need to be flexible and open to the possibilities.

Christ follower, pray that God will keep you flexible and open to receive your blessing from whatever source He chooses to use. If you are currently not a Christ follower, don’t let pride hinder you from experiencing the love of Jesus today.

All glory to God!
