Weekly Devotional - Evaluate Your Motive
View all news
My friends, an area that the Lord has been growing me as I draw closer to Him is my MOTIVE for doing certain things. This process of learning has forced me to daily reevaluate a lot of the things I have carelessly taken for granted in my life out of sheer ignorance.
As we evaluate our motives for the actions we take daily, we must heed the word of God in Proverbs 16:2 “All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the Lord”.
Our human nature seeks attention (sometimes too much) and as a result, we do certain things so people can notice that we are on top of our game - be it spiritually or in business. As a result, we draw attention to ourselves to crave praise, like, prestige and so on.
Regardless of our reasoning, part of growing spiritually is to guard against doing things for the wrong motives. Instead, our motivation should focus on:
- Doing things for God - Because He first loved us and for His goodness and mercy toward us.
- Not seeking anything in return – Particularly when God uses us to be a blessing to others. We should see this opportunity as a privilege to serve.
- Not taking God’s glory – It is very dangerous to take glory for what God is doing through our life. We must always return the praise back to God and not enjoy His praise. The Bible warns us that He will not share His glory with no man (Isaiah 42:8).
Christ follower, always evaluate your motives for serving God and others and pray that God will give you the right motive for His glory In Jesus Name. Amen. If you are currently not a Christ follower, Jesus loves you – come and experience His love today.
All glory to God!
