Background:

Leeds Citizens is seeking a new Community Organiser to help strengthen our diverse alliance of faith, education and community organisations. We are looking for an organised, dynamic and creative person with a positive enthusiasm for working with faith communities. This role requires a combination of strengths in relationship building, campaigning and developing new leaders.  

Working in partnership with Leeds Church Institute, the successful candidate will train leaders, organise campaigns and develop materials to increase the capacity of faith communities to take action together for the common good. They will also work on social justice campaigns with other civil society groups in Leeds, including schools, universities, residents groups and trade unions.

The successful candidate will work in Leeds, supported by the Leeds Citizens Senior Organiser and the Director of Leeds Church Institute. They will also join the national Guild of Citizens UK Community Organisers working around the UK, benefitting from training by leading practitioners in the UK and US.

Leeds Citizens is a local chapter of Citizens UK. Since our launch in 2015, we have built community relationships and trained hundreds of leaders through campaigns on local issues and citywide challenges, including poverty, mental health, public transport and refugees welcome.

Leeds Church Institute is a faith based organisation for lifelong learning. We work through events, publications, social media and a not-for-profit business to explore meaning, culture and living out faith in Leeds. https://lcileeds.wordpress.com

Hours: Full time, 37.5hrs

Contract: Permanent

Starting salary: £25,000
