authorLawrence Cockrill

A book club for theological books. We meet to discuss a particular title and eat together.

In this powerful book, Stephen Cherry focuses on forgiveness in relation to ‘shattering’ experiences such as torture and bereavement due to murder. In this way, he reflects on Christian understandings and practices of forgiveness in the most demanding contexts.

Marina Cantacuzino, Director of The Forgiveness Project says, ‘I have been exposed to many theories and analyses on the meaning of forgiveness, but nothing has been presented to me with such clarity and eloquence as Healing Agony.’

This event is free, lunch included, but booking is required. Let us know you are coming through Eventbrite

There will also be book clubs in February and March.

25th February — If you sit very still, My Sister by Marian Partington

Marian Partington reflects on her journey seeking to forgive after the murder of her sister Lucy. If that sounds too upsetting to read, you’ll be surprised to hear that it is also inspiring and thought-provoking.

31st March — A Cry is Heard by Jan Vanier

Part memoir, part a call to action to walk a path of unity and peace. Jean Vanier tells stories about L’Arche communities where people with learning disabilities and their friends live together.

If you think you could lead one of our book clubs, (we'll give you a hand preparing), email events@leedschurchinstitute.org.
