Your church and the web: Creating a successful website for your parish
A free Church Edit seminar for anyone wanting to improve their website, or start a new website. Numbers limited to 2 people per parish.
Topics will include:
- Why have a church website?
- The three audience groups your church website must be aimed at
- What to avoid on a church website
- What makes a good church website?
- Top tips for creating a successful website
- Pages your church website must contain
- Search engines – how to get your website found by Google
- There will then be a demonstration of the Church Edit website builder - an easy to use tool for creating an effective church website - as used by hundreds of UK churches.
The morning will be led by Kyle Cottington, Managing Director of Church Edit (www.churchedit.co.uk)

Editing and Designing Parish Magazines
Wednesday 19 May, 10am-3.30pm lunch provided Diocesan Office, St Mary’s Street, Leeds. (Plenty of secure free parking)
A practical all day course for magazine editors, writers, those considering starting a parish magazine—anyone involved in magazine production which looks at how to make your magazine more attractive. The afternoon will also include a workshop on using Microsoft Publisher.
Led by John Carter, Press and Communications Officer, a former journalist and editor of Together
The course is for parish magazine editors and assistants.
Topics will include:
- Story writing guidelines
- News values
- Generating new ideas for publication
- Editing techniques
- Good layout guidelines,
- Typesetting tips,
- Gaining your readers’ attention,
- Attractive design,
- Desktop publishing
Cost £5 per person – to include sandwich lunch

You and the Media – When a journalist calls ....
- Being interviewed, crisis management, and media awareness
Wednesday June 16th, 10am- 1pm Diocesan Office, St Mary’s Street, Leeds. (Plenty of secure free parking)
For clergy, this morning workshop will provide a practical framework for coping with the media in a crisis, or unexpected situation. .. and getting on the front foot when you feel on the back foot!
Topics will include:
- What to say when the phone rings
- Writing a press statement
- A crisis strategy
- Being interviewed – practical workshop
